C6770 NMR Spectroscopy of Biomolecules

Information available in the MU Information System

General Information

The course C6770 have been greatly reorganized. The idea is not to limit its participants to students specialized in the field of biomolecular NMR spectroscopy, but to provide useful information to a broader auditorium of students interested in structural biology in general (ranging from biologists to computational chemists). Physical background (principles and description of nuclear magnetism) is no longer expected. The teachers will try to combine delivering basic principles to those who have no experience with the topic, with giving real-life examples and deeper insight to those who are preparing to use NMR activelly. In order to provide more practical experience, the course C6770 is complemented with a practical exercise C6775, strongly recomended to all who are registered for C6770. The course C6770 should provide

Study Materials

The topics covered in the course are discussed in the study text, but the number of figures is limited. Please use your notes and handouts, and the presentations listed below to get the graphical information.

Presentation Nuclear magnetism

Presentation NMR experiment

Presentation Spin alchemy

Presentation Nucleic Acids (Part 1) and Nucleic Acids (Part 2)

Presentation Dynamics from NMR relaxation

Final examination

The registered students need to take an oral exam to get the credits for C6770. Each student obtains five questions, each selected randomly from one of five areas of topics covered in the course. Students who finished the practical course C6775 successfully need to answer only three questions. The answers can be returned to the examinator in a written form but an oral discussion may follow if the written answer is not completely clear. Students may use notes from the class, handouts, or other text when they prepare the answers, but they must not communicate with any other person.
